What happens now? How are underage kids getting guns in the first place? It isn't getting any better regardless of who's in office.

Background checks don't pick up mental issues, that's the problem. The story behind gun control is that there is little to no gun control. Unless people decide to suck up their pride and realize that mental evaluations are required to own or purchase a firearm, this problem will never go away.

This isn't a matter of pride. Think about your fellow countrymen and women for a change.

Guns should be a privilege, not a right in the direction things have been going lately. I agree with the mental evaluations before owning any firearm, who cares if someone sees it as a slap in the face if public venues and innocent people aren't being shot up. Gotta suck it up sometimes.

I think that it's sad this is still going on and you guys are right, it is a lack of gun control that is letting people like that teen obtain firearms when they clearly aren't capable of dealing with them. The real heroes are ones who put their lives on the line and that high school football coach did that exactly. He saved lives in exchange of losing his own, which is sad but just incredibly respectful.

Waiting for someone to jump in with that medical privacy crap and say "Oh we can't release that information, the suspect has to hint they'll shoot and someone else reports it." Typical American pussy crap, I know.

These shootings are getting real out of hand. If kids can't feel safe at schools, then where can they be safe?

People need to remember that guns are not the enemy in this, but instead the lack of gun control and laws. These are letting people who are not mentally fit to gain access to them and until like others said above, we give up a little to get a little, things will just continue as they are going. I feel that every person that wants a gun NEEDS to be mentally evaluated regardless of how much of an insult it may feel to others. One apple can indeed spoil the bunch.

The mindset of politicians and a lot of the one dimensional people in this country is that if it's simple it is uneducated and not well thought out. Everything to them has to be over complicated and ridiculously complex to be "credible". We're a country divided on many things, that is just one of them.

Someone is trying to seriously defend the shooter now.

What is there to defend? He clearly knew what he was doing if he posted months in advance that he wanted to shoot up schools and from a mental standpoint, if you can orchestrate a shooting that takes out 17 YOU know what you're doing and got no excuse for doing it.

Lance, in most instances both sides do deserve equal say. In this case however, there is no reasonable explanation to make the shooter's actions justifiable. I agree that the whole "mental incompetency" thing is getting overused. This needs to be set aside for actual cases, not some petty excuse to be hidden behind.
